Executive Officer:

(staff)

Helenka King

Helenka has had twenty years experience working in the arts and not for profit sector, including Manager of the Queensland Writers Centre, Vice chair and Chair of the Brisbane Writers Festival, and most recently Manager of the Melbourne Writers Festival. President and co-founder:

Angela Altair

Angela has had a lifelong love affair with the written word as a reader and writer. She still can't believe how a modest idea for a one-off literary event - dreamt up over a latte with co-founder Catherine Ryan at Williamstown's Breizoz Creperie seven years ago - has become the West's premier writers' festival. As Vaclav Havel said: 'Culture reflects the emancipation of the human spirit and a striving to understand human existence.' Nothing does that better than books. Angela has worked as a journalist, PR consultant, media trainer and has been a councillor for Williamstown at Hobsons Bay City Council since 1999. Her favourite book is Wuthering Heights.

Vice-President:

Robin Grove

Originally trained as a musician, Robin has been teaching literary studies at the University of Melbourne since 1963. Throughout this time he was closely associated with The Critical Review and, in addition to the journal, published books, articles, stage-works and reviews on a wide variety of subjects. He has been Visiting Scholar at King's College, Cambridge, and other institutions, receiving a Fulbright Award for International Dance Scholarship in 2001. He is now Honorary Senior Fellow in the School of Culture & Communications.

Treasurer:

Temporarily vacant (expressions of interest welcome).

Secretary:

Kay Morrisey

Kay Morrissey has senior policy and management experience in the Arts, Politics and Government including working at the Australia Council and as an Arts Ministerial Advisor at the State level.

Other committee members are :

Janet Howie

Janet is a published author of non-fiction, and poetry, including haiku. Twice president of The Society of Women Writers, Victoria, and member of Western Union Writers, she lives in Williamstown. Her favourite poet, among several, is Judith Wright.

Pam Giumarra

Pam loved going to libraries, reading and meeting different people, so when looking for a career change (from ceramic design and hot glass blowing), it seemed a natural choice to become a librarian. Her role as Co-ordinator of Community Learning and Access at Hobsons Bay Libraries provides her with opportunities to do more of what librarians do best - adding value to our community through enhanced services and events.

Suzanne Gately

Suzanne is the Manager of Hobsons Bay Libraries. As a librarian, she loves books and reading but never ever has enough time to actually follow that pastime. With a background in education she loves libraries with a passion. She can see a vital role for public libraries in lifelong learning, and in promoting information literacy and all things literary! She is the co-convenor of a book club and, when not reading, loves to spend weekends hitting the little white ball around the paddock!

Linda North

Having always had a craving for stories, Linda first studied film but defected to words about ten years ago. She has worked as a Children's Book Editor in educational publishing, as a Children's Specialist Bookseller and holds an MA in Creative Writing from The University of Technology, Sydney. Linda is particularly drawn to teenage stories and is grateful for The Catcher in the Rye and the works of S.E. Hinton and John Marsden.
