Get set for a week of literature in all its forms culminating in the popular Soiree on Friday night 30 April where the winners of the prose and writing prizes will be announced.  Then get set for a weekend packed with books, writing, discussions, workshops and plenty of laughs in the comedy session for which the Willy Lit Fest has become famous.  Most events will take place in or around the historic Williamstown Town Hall, including a Youth Program designed by young people for young people.

Starting as a small local festival, the Willy Lit Fest has grown into one of the country's most respected wordfests, attracting some of Australia's best loved authors. It has become famous for its comic and sports panels. There is a strong focus on local participation, with the annual Peoples Choice awards showcasing aspiring local writers and poets.

The Willy Lit Fest is proud of its western roots - hence the theme for this year's festival, Imagining the West. The theme could be understood in several ways, it could mean the geographical West of the teeming basalt plains, west of the City or the West that over half a million people (and counting) call home. It could be interpreted as the West as a cultural construct seated atop the traditional history of the land in conflict with its colonial past. You could take it to mean the West where a hotpot of cultures and experiences are giving rise to an intriguing new art vernacular, or even the West as landscape of the imagination, where the mind's western hemisphere leans ever more towards the setting sun.

This year's festival promises to explore the West in all its intriguing, ambiguous aspects.  As always, we promise you rich literary pickings, loads of laughs and plenty of fun. .
