Anne Latreille

Biography

Anne Latreille worked as a wide-ranging Melbourne-based writer and journalist for ‘The Age’ newspaper from 1968 until 1997. In the mid 1970s she began focussing on landscape and garden writing, developing the award-winning ‘Environs’ column for The Age newspaper, and becoming its gardens editor in 1985. Her books include Garden Voices (about garden designers Australia-wide, past and present figures); Garden of a Lifetime (about Dame Elisabeth Murdoch and ‘Cruden Farm’), Kindred Spirits (looking at Joan Law-Smith and noted amateur botanist Jean Galbraith) and The Natural Garden (a biography of landscape architect Ellis Stones). Until quite recently she also wrote obituaries.
