Poetry has always been a fantastic feature of the Willy Lit Fest program and this year we are very pleased to welcome six poets to our midst.
Joel McKerrow is one of Australia’s most successful performance poets and will perform his evocative and passionate poetry for thirty minutes, followed by a one hour workshop perfect for beginners and long-time poets. La Mama Poetica is curated by award winning poet Amanda Anastasi, on Sunday 14 June at 1.00pm. La Mama Poetica features the best spoken word and poetry on offer with poets Anna Fern and Paul Mitchell. Anna Fern crosses between spoken word and sound poetry, and loves plucking sounds from unlikely objects. Paul Mitchell is a Melbourne-based poet, fiction writer and journalist. Dynamic and eloquent performance poet Randall Stephens will be evoking the scenes, sights and thoughts of his recent epic bike ride across the Nullarbor in aid of haemophilia research in Words on Wheels on Saturday 13 June at 3.30. He will join forces and share stories and reflections with fellow writer-cyclist Jeremy Scott, whose stunning photo-essay The Long Road from a Broken Heart documents his fantastic and sometimes dangerous cycle ride from London to New Zealand. Poet Sandy Jeffs will be bringing her unique talents and perspective to the Madness, Poetry and Memoir panel on Saturday 13 June at 3.30. Along with Graeme Sparkes and Dr Kate Richards, she’ll explore challenging but often inspiring stories of surviving mental illness. Tickets – full $15, concession $12, early bird $10.
