We are excited to announce the addition of a new writing prize for Willy Lit Fest in 2021, the Jennifer Burbidge Short Story Award. Now in its 20th year, the prize honours the life of Williamstown resident, Jennifer Burbidge.
The award is sponsored by Mary Burbidge and offers $500 for the winning entry of a story up to 3000 words on the theme of disability. The prize particularly welcomes contributions from writers with disability.
WLF president, Hugh Jones, said the festival was pleased to host the Jennifer Burbidge Short Story Award. ‘This award is a great legacy for Jennifer Burbidge and we thank Mary for her generosity,’ Hugh said. ‘We’re pleased to be able to bring the award home to Williamstown as a worthy addition to the Willy Lit Fest writing awards stable.’
Entry is $15 per submission and is open to writers from around Australia. The award will be presented at Willy Lit Fest 2021 and the winning entry published on the WLF website. Keep an eye on our next e-news for entry dates and details.
