Cast Your Eyes Astern
Come along and celebrate the launch of Cast Your Eyes Astern.
Cast Your Eyes Astern is the fifth attempt to publish a documented history of the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria. A history of the Club was written during the 1940s and another brief history was printed in 2003. Two other Club historians have written a shortened version.
When Ann Goodwin volunteered to coordinate the Archives subcommittee at the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria in 2016, she had no intention of writing a Club history. However, her interest was piqued by the fact that her paternal ancestor had arrived by sailing ship at Port Phillip in March 1853. At this time, the earliest documented sailing regattas were being held on Port Phillip Bay..
The book has been written to compliment the Royals Timeline History Wall that was created to display highlights of the Club’s history in a visual form. The History Wall is on display in the foyer of the clubhouse and this book fills in the historical detail of the Royals Timeline and provides a back story on how club sailing and social activities have changed since 1853.
