Street Libraries

Curious about Street Libraries? How to get one? Build one? Host one?

Street Libraries are boxes attached to a property that provide small, free book exchanges for the community to use. They create community connections and increase a love of literacy in neighbourhoods.

Hobsons Bay boasts over thirty Street Libraries in neighbourhoods, local playgrounds, shopping precincts, childcare centres and community centres.

Come and meet a Hobsons Bay Street Library Host to learn more about these community initiatives at the Williamstown Literary Festival.

The Hosts will have a pre-built unpainted Street Library on display for you to see. A free raffle will be drawn at the end of the day and one lucky person will walk away with this pre-built Street Library to paint, with guidance on how to set it up in their neighbourhood.
