The Women and the Girls
2020 and 2021 have been watershed moments; times of great change. The stunning scenes of Black Lives Matter and the #MeToo Movement have made us spectators to history happening under our porchlight. The 1970’s was also a time of social change and upheaval and some pretty seemly fashion statements. From there to here, we find Laura Bloom’s, The Women and the Girls. Three friends. Three marriages left behind. Life begins in earnest.
Award winning and critically acclaimed Bloom floats in from the counterculture capital of Australia to sit in with ABC’s Sarah L’Estrange to examine two temporal pinch points, when a clarion call for women’s rights dominated the public forum. Is this the clarion call we have waited a few hundred centuries to embrace? Laura Bloom has earned a reputation for engrossing works of modern historical fiction. How does an author navigate the course through the parliament of public opinion and stay one step ahead of her readership?
