Sonia Orchard is a freelance writer and author with a background in classical piano and marine biology, and a PhD in creative writing. Her first book was the bestselling memoir Something More Wonderful (Hachette Livre 2003), and her debut novel The Virtuoso (Fourth Estate 2009) won the Indie Award for Best Debut Fiction. Her second novel, Into the Fire (Affirm Press 2019), has been optioned for TV. She is currently writing a non-fiction book on evolutionary science and womanhood, due out in 2022, and is also festival director for the Mountain Writers Festival (in Macedon).
She lives in the Macedon Ranges with her husband, three kids and many pets.
